What one 500-barrel frac tank amounts to

Capacity
500 barrels. An oilfield barrel is 42 US gallons, so that is 21,000 gallons.
Footprint
Roughly 43 to 45 feet long and 8.5 feet wide, going by two makers' listings. Plan pad space for the truck that sets it, too.
Empty weight
About 29,500 lb on both listings checked.
Filled with fresh water
Around 175,000 lb of water on top of the steel (21,000 gal × 8.34 lb). Brine weighs more. Soft caliche or a wet pad matters.
Fittings
Typically 4-inch valves and a front or side manifold. Tell the firm what your hoses and pumps connect with.

Jobs people rent Permian frac tanks for

Three things that move the quote most

  1. How far and how rough the drive is. Delivery and pickup are usually charged on their own. A lease 60 miles up a ranch road costs more to reach than a yard off I-20.
  2. How long the tanks stay. Rent normally runs per tank per day, so a two-week flowback and a three-month storage job price very differently.
  3. What goes in them. Fresh water rinses out; oily flowback or produced water means a washout and possibly disposal before the tank goes back.

One public 2017 bid (Louisiana, not a Permian price) showed delivery, pickup and washouts costing more than the month's rent. See the quote checklist.
